The Challenge
The single-track railway line in Thuringia faced significant safety limitations, including the absence of block signals, single-section operation, and unprotected level crossings. The implementation of a next-generation Interlocking (IXL) system was therefore required to enhance operational safety and performance.

Our Contribution
Within the Hitachi contract, Te.Si.Fer. was responsible for the critical requirements engineering phase and the preparation of the system’s functional specifications.
Key activities included:
- Analysis of system requirements and update of the System/Subsystem Requirements Specification (SSRS).
- Preparation of Hardware Representation Layer (HRL) interface documentation.
- Support for laboratory testing activities and technical assistance to the Hazard Response Team.
Outcome
The rigorous specification process and comprehensive interface documentation established a solid foundation for the implementation of the new Interlocking system, supporting the future enhancement of operational performance and safety standards on a historically challenging railway line.
